As I was looking around for a way to find out whether Yellow Dock grows in our part of New Jersey, I found that plants.usda.gov shows where plants grow in various states, and alas, in my part of Northern New Jersey, it appears there isn’t much, but I know I’ve seen it in many places in NJ. You might enjoy the site…after you’re finished visiting here for a bit.

Yellow Dock is a member of the buckwheat family, and grows throughout the United States. Wikipedia states that this plant is native to Europe and Asia, but has naturalized throughout the world.

The early pioneers believed that Yellow Dock helped to support the urinary system.

The actives in the herb include anthraquinones and tannins. The first is responsible for mild stimulation of the colon.

Yellow Dock is one of a number of herbs that promotes proper elimination and colon health, and also supports function of the liver.

Herbs that stimulate the colon often do so by increasing the flow of bile, which in turn is stimulating to the liver and gallbladder.
