Elsa shares: “I have exotic vegies and herbs (purple carrots from Afganistan, Kolrabi and paprika from Hungary, purple tomatillo from Mexico, Jindungo or bird’s eye chillies from Angola, Melissa, yerba buena, etc. Got thousands, just ask. Have lots of Portuguese heirlooms such as giant kale, peas, broadbeans, tomatoes, etc etc etc.

The story behind “Weeds and Seed Swap”

Weeds and Seeds Swap got it’s start way back in the late 1990’s, but not as a blog, blogs didn’t exist back then, or were so new I didn’t know about them.

With a love for gardening, medicinal herbs and the beautiful outdoors, I started “Weeds & Seeds Swap” as part of my main website, and now, about 10 years later, have moved it to it’s own spot on the web.

The original idea came about when I told several people I had Jewelweed plants growing wild in my yard, and would be happy to send them some if they were to provide me with a self-addressed, stamped box about the size of a video mailer, or just postage if they wanted. The boxes came, and much to my surprise, so did little goodies that I never expected or asked for in exchange.

Each year I will contact contributors to make sure all are still interested in being a part of the exchange. As a swap or selling contributor is added, a post will be made to the blog announcing their contribution; you can find those posts under the the category heading “Swap Contributors” (in the right sidebars).
