This is the case with Horsetail. The plants that grow near us are growing along the road which is on the bank of a lake. I would not use them personally until replanting somewhere else in soil away from the road to decrease contamination from exhaust...after they had "come back" the following season. But thankfully we have lots of aloe in our yard.My wife was told by a friend of the T'ohono O'odham Nation that their people have used aloe for years-one application was to use the split leaf(gel side down) to soothe irritation of the breast for nursing mothers.
