It was two weekends ago this past that we had a blizzard in Northern NJ with snow over 2 feet in many places, this is a picture looking out at night after shoveling a foot, by the next morning another foot of snow had fallen.

Jump ahead 2 weekends exactly to this past weekend with record breaking rainfall coming down on large quantities of snow that had not yet melted on many properties around us, but most significantly the hill or mountain across the street from us…once the drains could no longer handle the rain, it headed for our front door, and across the property into my gardens. The picture below, also taken at night, shows a point at which about 10″ – 12″ of water was up against our house. To the right it is flowing off the edge of a rock retaining wall down to the house, a garden runs the full length of that retaining wall, you are only seeing a bit of it.

Today it was a beautiful, sunny day…yesterday my son was able to clean up all the things we used to divert water away from the house, and after my husband used the wet vac inside, I was able to clean up the edge of carpeting that got wet, and after running the fan on it for a couple of days, it is dry. We could have had much more damage, and many in New Jersey did.

In the midst of the chaos, my little bulbs are beginning to come up out of the ground, it was a pleasant sight to see.
